Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 is a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official of the United States. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and was an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected as San Francisco's district attorney. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez during the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as a senator in the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for reforms to healthcare, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She was praised nationally due to her sharp questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
